I am an ecological researcher, the Scientific Director of the Nordic Centre of Excellence NorMER, and the co-leader of IPEV Programme 137 at CNRS-Strasbourg in collaboration with the Centre Scientifique de Monaco via programme LEA647. My research focus is on the behavioural ecology and population dynamics of species in response to ecosystem variability. My current projects include studies on seabirds and fish species located in the Arctic and Antarctic regions in response to global climate and anthropogenic pressures.

The Antarctic research programme is focused on king penguin populations in the Crozet and Kerguelen island systems, and emperor and Adelie penguins at Terre Adelie on the Antarctic mainland. My projects with these three species are focused in three related areas:
1. Population demographics of king, emperor, and Adelie penguins in response to climate variability and human pressures
2. Population structure and individual genetics of king, emperor, and Adelie penguins
3. The importance/relevance of inter-individual signalling on the behavioural ecology of king, emperor, and Adelie penguins
In the Arctic, I am especially focused on the following (very) general topics:
1. Population dynamics of kittiwakes and guillemots in northern seas in response to climate variability and human pressures.
2. Adaptation of marine ecosystems in northern seas and assessing impacts from human and environmental pressures.
My overall aim is to align and merge these Arctic and Antarctic themes to realize an overall better understanding of threats and challenges to earth's polar ecosystems.
My primary collaborators include:
-the Marine Group at CEES, UiO.
-Yvon Le Maho, IPHC-CNRS Strasbourg
-Profs. Louis Botsford and Alan Hastings at University of California, Davis
-the extended NorMER network
-Denis Allemand (Director) and Celine Le Bohec (Polar Group Leader) at Centre Scientifique de Monaco
