In this course basic statistical methods and ideas will be taught with emphasis on applications and the interpretation of results and their relationship to the applications. There will be a practical project based on the participants' own data consisting of planning, performing and presenting a statistical analysis. The statistical analyses will be carried out using the statistical package R.
The course has two parts. First there will be a week of class room teaching with lectures and exercises. This will be followed by a three week period where a project is completed under supervision, preferably based on the participants' own data. The course will be held from 19 May to 23 May 2014 and the project is to be handed in by 13 June 2014. This course is aimed at PhD students who need to learn applied statistics irrespective of their background.
